Lauren, Owner & Stylist

How long have you been in the beauty industry?
I have been in the beauty industry since 2000. I started working at a salon while I was in beauty school at Dutchess BOCES my junior year of high school.

What’s your favorite thing about the industry?
The creativity it allows me. Also, making people feel confident. I love teaching my clients how to create the looks they’re after. It’s rewarding when a client leaves my chair with a smile on their face. Also, the amazing people I get to meet along the way; coworkers, artists, other beauty professionals and clients. Everyone gets their hair done so you get to meet all sorts of people.

What’s your specialty?
People are my specialty. I like to think that I am an intuitive person, and I have an ability to interpret what people want and deliver each and every time.

What’s your best beauty advice?
You can wear anything if you wear it with confidence. You don’t need to wash your hair everyday, and can just re-wet your hair with product to restyle.

What are your favorite products?
Arrojo’s Wave Mist and Glint for texture, Aveda’s Botanical Repair line for hair, and the Aveda Tulasara Skin Care line, especially the Firm Concentrate.

What inspires you?
Education classes, co-workers, nature, and art.

What are some of your favorite classes that you’ve taken to advance your craft?
I fully believe that in order to keep your skills sharp and know the latest and greatest in the industry it is crucial to continue your education. During my career I have attended many advanced academies such as The Arrojo Academy, Sassoon Academy and Bumble and Bumble University. I’ve also attended hands on color classes with some of the top colorists in the industry. My favorite class was a five week course in a fashion hair styling school in Milan, Italy where I was able to help style the hair for one of the runway shows. I’ve also finished a teacher-training program with Sally Rogerson and completed many advanced razor cutting classes. I also teach an apprentice program every Tuesday morning at the salon for our new talent stylist.

How long have you been in the beauty industry?
I have been in the beauty industry since 2009.

What’s your favorite thing about the industry?
I love that the industry is ever changing. There is always something new to learn.

What’s your specialty?
I have to say I am good at relaxing people and relieving them of any negative energy throughout their appointments. I love all things hair, however styling has to be my favorite.

What’s your best beauty advice?
My best advice is to bring a wide tooth comb and hair clip into the shower with you. Comb conditioner through the hair, clip up,and let sit for a few minutes. Only let hair down when you are done using your body wash. You don’t want to buy professional hair products and ruin your beautiful hair with ingredients in your body wash that may be harmful to your hair texture/color.

What are your favorite products?
I love the Arrojo Hair Fiber for blow dries. It gives the hair awesome texture that still has natural movement. Right now, I favor the Arrojo American Wave Structure for styling curly hair. It is very creamy, hydrating, and defining without being crunchy.

What inspires you?
I am lucky enough to find inspiration through my coworkers, but also out in the real world. I am very artistic and creative so it is easy to find inspiration.

What are some of your favorite classes that you’ve taken to advance your craft?
I love learning and take every opportunity to advance my knowledge! Some of my favorite classes include Moroccan oil bridal styling, Amika finish styling, L’Oreal and Aveda color classes, Jon Reyman cutting, and most recently the Arrojo razor cutting class. Education is an important part of our craft and I wholeheartedly believe staying up-to-date with current trends is what makes someone a great stylist!

How long have you been in the beauty industry?
I’ve been in the beauty industry since 2017, but I’ve been an artist all my life.

What’s your favorite thing about the industry?
Being an artist, I really enjoy getting to use my technical skills and creativity to help everyone feel and look amazing.

What’s your specialty?
I like doing everything. But, If I really love transformations. It is amazing how a different cut and color can totally transform someone!

What’s your best beauty advice?
I think we are in a time where trying new things with style really helps people become better versions of themselves. So, my advice to everyone would be to go and do something a little different than last time. Put in a slice of purple, go a little shorter, try some layers, or wear a new color lipstick. The world is your oyster.

What are your favorite products?
Curl definer is one of the best products I’ve ever used. Whether it’s applied on wet wavy/curly hair and air dried or used for a frizz-free blowout, it is definitely one of my most used products on clients.

What inspires you?
Everything inspires me because all knowledge is intertwined. You can take something you’ve learned from one place and apply it to something totally different.

What are some of your favorite classes that you’ve taken to advance your craft?
As an artist, I believe it’s important for you to constantly practice your craft. I love to practice by learning and expanding my knowledge base! I’ve been fortunate enough to take several classes throughout my years as a stylist. My favorites include Arrojo’s fundamentals of razor cutting, Sally Rogerson cutting, Steve Ferreira barbering, editorial styling with Spring Atelier, Arrojo Expo, and Goldwell & Pulp Riot color classes.

I’ve been in the industry since 2018, but I’ve had a passion for beauty all my life. There’s something about it that really drives me!

What’s your favorite thing about the industry?
I love how things are constantly evolving and that there is always something new to learn. There are always new trends popping up and that excites me!

What’s your best beauty advice?
Always wear confidence and a smile! When you feel good, you look good.

What are your favorite products?

What inspires you?
My clients! They constantly challenge me and make me a better stylist. I’m also inspired by my co-workers, they help me grow and perfect my craft.

What are some of your favorite classes that you’ve taken to advance your craft?
I’ve really enjoyed the apprentice program Lauren has set up. Each week we go through a different class and it’s really helped me hone in on my skills and get ready to take clients of my own. I love doing a bomb blowout, whether it’s with a flat or round brush!

Alicia Salon Assisitant

Alicia, Level 1 Stylist

How long have you been in the beauty industry?
I’ve been in the beauty industry since 2019.

What’s your favorite thing about the industry?
My favorite thing about the beauty industry is that it lets us channel our inner artist and allows us
to be creative everyday. I also love helping others feel more confident in their skin.

What’s your specialty?
My passion lies in bridal styling for weddings and all formal events. I love creating beautiful
updos for brides to make them feel special on their big day!

What’s your best beauty advice?
My best beauty advice would be to use a flat iron to curl your hair! It’s tricky at first, but once you
get the hang of it you’ll be a pro and never go back to a regular curling iron. Slowly turn your flat
iron away from your face white simultaneously pulling downward to create a loose and beachy
wave. Leave your ends out to create a more lived-in look.

What are your favorite products?
My favorite product would have to be the Dry Shampoo by Arrojo. It creates texture while not
weighing the down too much. (And it smells amazing!) Pro tip: Use a dry shampoo at your root
before your hair gets dirty. This will soak up any dirt and grease before hand and gives you
more time in between hair washes.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by my co-workers everyday! I also find inspiration through social media and
educational courses.

What are some of your favorite classes that you’ve taken to advance your craft?
I love taking classes because it inspires me to keep challenging myself to become a better
stylist. One of my favorite classes thus far has been a balayage class with Claudia Cruz,
founder of Skye Studio. Not only did she go in-depth with how to execute the perfect lived-in
balayage but throughout the class she also gave us an inside look on how to thrive in your
business!
